Schoolhouse Farmhouse is a creative studio, established by George Burroughs and Lauren Giordano, that focuses on exploring humans’ relationship with the world around them—through film, design, and photography. We also work with businesses, individuals, and organizations to tell their stories. See some of our recent work.

With twenty years of experience working with clients across a range of industries including: nonprofit, higher education, healthcare, public affairs, and small business—we bring distinctive strengths to our storytelling approach.

Previously the Creative Director at the Brookings Institution, George led a team that closely collaborated with the Institution's scholars to develop dynamic visual presentations for digital, print, and traditional broadcast platforms. His initiatives focused on connecting viewers to research through the human experience. He has written and directed several award-winning projects, including a short that illustrates social mobility the use of LEGO, an animated explanation of the origins of ISIS, and short documentaries examining climate change in relation to water scarcity and economic mobility for Baltimore youth, respectively. Most recently he directed the Brookings Institution's first longer form documentary, The Life She Deserves, an intimate portrait of a young epilepsy patient in the United States who finds relief with medical marijuana. As a speaker at SXSW Future 15s, he illustrated effective ways for nonprofit, education, and advocacy organizations to create compelling video.

Lauren has cultivated highly developed technical, conceptualization, and project planning/management skills. Early on, she worked on advertising campaigns for various national clients and later gained experience in multiple in-house higher education communications departments. In a shift to editorial design, she was art director for several national and regional publications, including Preservation—the magazine of The National Trust for Historic Preservation and The Atlantic. At Preservation, she executed the design of the print magazine and established best practices for the publication’s online presence, and at The Atlantic, she was part of the team that produced the print magazine and contributed illustrations and data visualizations to theatlantic.com. Her work has been recognized by Folio Magazine (Ozzies) and the City & Regional Magazine Association (CRMA).

George and Lauren both studied at Pratt Institute.
